Travelling with baby in Provence: the complete guide
Provence is an ideal destination for a family holiday with a baby. The mild climate, soothing landscapes and charming accommodation create the perfect setting for a relaxing stay. All it takes is a little organisation to make the most of it.
The equipment question: travelling light is possible
It's tempting to pack everything, but planes and cars have limits. A travel cot, high chair, car seat and stroller can easily weigh 30 kg together. That's before you factor in the boot space they take up, leaving no room for suitcases.
Our advice: bring personal essentials (clothes, comforter, bottles, medication) and rent the bulky equipment on site. That's exactly what we offer at C&V Baby in Provence: premium equipment delivered directly to your accommodation. You arrive, everything is set up and ready.
Unlike the entry-level gear you often find with rental services, we've chosen trusted brands: Hauck 3-in-1 cot with thick mattress, Stokke Tripp Trapp adjustable high chair, compact Cybex stroller perfect for Provencal lanes. Every item is inspected, cleaned and sanitised between each rental.
Best times to visit Provence with baby
Spring (April-June) is the ideal season: pleasant temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees, lavender in bloom, colourful Provencal markets, and far fewer crowds than in high summer. It's the perfect time for stroller walks through Alpilles villages.
Autumn (September-October) is equally lovely. Temperatures remain mild, the grape harvest brings a festive atmosphere to the villages, and accommodation is more affordable.
Summer remains very popular, but temperatures can exceed 35 degrees. If you're coming between July and August, favour morning activities, plan air-conditioned spaces for nap time, and don't forget sun protection. A Beaba bouncer will be your best ally for settling baby in the shade by the pool.
Where to stay with baby in Provence?
Provencal farmhouses and gites are ideal: space, enclosed gardens, peace. Avoid city-centre hotels, which are often noisy and poorly suited to little ones.
The areas we particularly recommend:
- The Alpilles: Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Maussane-les-Alpilles, Eygalieres. Authentic villages, exceptional markets, flat trails accessible by stroller
- The Luberon: Lourmarin, Cucuron, Bonnieux. Quieter than Gordes, equally charming, and easier with a pushchair
- Around Salon-de-Provence and Senas: our base, at the heart of our free delivery zone. Close to everything, with quick access to both the Alpilles and Luberon
To explore these areas in detail, read our guide Alpilles and Luberon with family.
Essentials not to forget
Beyond baby equipment (which you can rent), here's what we recommend packing:
- SPF 50 sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat
- Mosquito net for the cot (Provencal mosquitoes are active in the evening)
- Favourite comforter and usual fitted sheet so baby finds familiar scents
- Health booklet and basic medication (paracetamol, saline solution)
- A baby carrier or sling for hilltop villages where the stroller can't go
Plan your trip with ease
To simplify your planning, we've created all-inclusive packs that bundle the essentials at a reduced price. The Complete pack (cot + high chair + stroller) is our most popular with families discovering Provence.
Delivery is free from 30 euros of rental, and we cover the entire area within 30 km of Senas. Have a question? Get in touch, we're happy to help.
